| While
my professional background is as both an interior designer and an
architect, I have been painting for over 25 years. I work in watercolor,
and my subject matter is usually landscapes.
All pieces are
painted on location. This allows me to experience the amazing effects
of light on colors and textures. Even more important for me though
is that this also helps me to be “in the moment” and
to more fully experience these great places. Painting
in one spot, and focusing on one view for several hours really helps
me to “see” what is there, and what makes each place
special. That includes the sounds, sights, smells, wildlife and
the climate of the particular place. This has included surprise
visits from ravens as well as a momma bear and her 3 cubs.
My work has
been influenced by a love of nature, color, and light, as well as
the inspiration from workshops taken with some very talented artists.
These include Betty Lou Schlemm, Mel Stabin, Brian Atyeo, Tony van
Hasselt and William Vrscak. The
paintings to be exhibited typically focus on recent works painted
in New England or Alaska.
- The Alaska
work features wilderness areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife
Reserve, and the Copper River, which is part of the St. Elias/Wrangell
National Park system.
- The New England
work includes several scenes from Block Island and other classics,
such as scenes from Plum Island and the colorful cranberry bog
harvest.
My work is often
exhibited locally in both juried and non-juried shows. Recent exhibits
have included Centre Street Café in Jamaica Plain, the Amazing
Things juried show, Arts/Wayland Annual Show, two recent Tower Gallery
shows and a rotating 6 month exhibit at Traditions of Wayland.
